Software developers from around the world contributed millions of hours to the Open Source software movement over the last 30 years. The creator of Linux, Linus Torvalds, popularized this phenomenon of crowdsourcing in 1991 and has now evolved from the software industry to include many other industries such as transportation, real estate etc.

This talk will discuss the convergence of global trends, Location-Aware Software and Smart Phone technology which is allowing RideSharing (sharing of car rides between people) to make positive impacts in Safety, Sustainability and employee productivity with companies such as Motorola, Macy’s and others. We will also touch on leading edge Location-aware technologies including HTML5, NodeJS, GPS and mapping.
